ABOUT US

We welcome people of all faiths and none- whether you’re from Corstorphine or Columbia, an atheist or a life long follower of Jesus you are welcome here!

WHAT WE BELIEVE

We believe that a relationship with God is possible for all people.

We believe that all people can be made good by God.

We believe that God’s way of allowing people to come to know him in a relational way is through the work Jesus Christ did when He came to Earth 2000 years ago.

We believe Jesus taught us the right way to live and then died and rose from the dead to give us a new life of relationship with God and a new life of moral goodness.

We believe this new relationship with God comes from a person deciding to live a life of ongoing trust and faithfulness to Jesus Christ.

We believe that this life of faith in Jesus is the kind of life all people were meant to live, the most satisfying kind of life possible and the unique way of knowing God as father and discovering his great love for us.

WHO WE ARE

Corstorphine Community Church is a growing church with a vision to help people discover the life transforming message of Christ. We are a church where native Scots and Hong Kongers and others come together to be rooted in community. We are a refuge for those who are in need, a place of spiritual revival for those who are seeking and a place of restoration for those who are hurting.

We are also a place of welcome for the many Hong Kongers who have come to Edinburgh since early 2021. We host social groups and activities where Hong Kongers can meet and get to know one another [mention badminton, elders Tuesday morning group etc]. We have a bilingual church service on Sundays at 2pm called Hong Kong Circle which allows Hong Kongers to grow in their faith. We have a good number of youth and also children at our Hong Kong Circle service and have ministries for them.

We want to a be a church where people of all backgrounds can feel at home. We are a relaxed community, dress code on a Sunday is informal, our services are happy and friendly as we celebrate the goodness of God.

OUR JOURNEY

We began as a church in 1929 when some members left what is now St Ninians Church of Scotland and set up Corstorphine United Free Church of Scotland. The new church wanted to take a stand on the separation of church and state- hence the split. The congregation met in The Neuk (now RS McColl) on St John’s Road for a year while they built a new building which was completed in 1930.

The church building was extended as the congregation grew including the addition of new hall in 1965. For almost 90 years our church has been a part of the Corstorphine community. Sadly however the congregation declined in numbers from about 1960 and was only about a dozen strong by 2020.

Things suddenly changed in 2021 however. On Good Friday 2021 a Hong Kong pastor called William Yeung approached CCC to hire the church’s hall to house a new Hong Konger congregation he was establishing called ‘Hong Kong Christian Church in Edinburgh’ (HKCCE). Many people had recently started migrating to the UK and Edinburgh because of recent disturbances in Hong Kong and William Yeung had a vision of starting a new Cantonese language church to serve the new arrivals.

HKCCE started meeting in the church hall in May 2021 and grew quickly. Some joined our CCC English language Sunday service which was a great blessing. However, very sadly in September 2021, William Yeung caught Covid and died suddenly. After the shock, HKCCE had to decide what their future would be without their founding pastor. A majority of the congregation wanted to continue as a separate church under William’s denomination, Cumberland Presbyterian Church. This they did and they are now flourishing, meeting in the Corstorphine Community Centre, having outgrown the CCC hall.

However some members of HKCCE wanted to be part of Corstorphine Community Church. They wanted to be part of a local Scottish church. And so after discussing with Duncan, the pastor of CCC, it was agreed to set up in January 2022 a new Sunday afternoon bilingual congregation called Hong Kong Circle as part of CCC.

We believe God guided us to set up this new congregation. Someone had given Duncan a prophetic message in 2014 which seemed strange at the time but which now made perfect sense. She said that there would be an instant harvest that would look like ‘instant noodles’. He couldn’t imagine what that harvest would be, until everyone from Hong Kong suddenly arrived. Also and independently, a member of the CCC congregation had felt moved to pray several years before that the Lord would bring Chinese people to the church. The Lord also gave the words of Isaiah 58:12 which say: ‘Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and will raise up the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.’ God was making it clear that this new congregation was in his plan.

We believe that the Hong Kongers who have come to CCC and founded Hong Kong Circle congregation and who have joined the Sunday morning English language service will help rebuild an old Scottish church community, building anew on age-old foundations.
